Part of an extensive network of trails from Florida to maine, East Coast Greenway offers Manchester residents a great easy path for exercise, commuting and communing with nature. This trail is part of a 9.8 mile section of the Charter Oak Greenway that begins in East Hartford and ends in Bolton. This 3.3 mile trail begins at the East Hartford town line, where it connects the East Hartford portion of the trail. After about 0.5 miles, the trail meets Spencer Street/Silver Lane. It then continues about 0.75 miles through the Manchester Community College campus before joining Bidwell Street and travelling under I-384 to Hartford Road. The bike lanes and trail follow Bidwell Street and Hartford Road for about 0.7 miles before crossing back over I-384 along Kenney Street. After 0.5 miles more the trail intersects Prospect Street, and then continues another 0.5 miles before joining Route 83. The trail then travels a short distance more before reaching Charter Oak Park (the Globe Hollow multi-use trail connects with the Charter Oak Greenway in Charter Oak Park), where it will continue through to Porter St. (future extension to Bolton Notch). Clean up after pets. - Walk against the direction of traffic when walking within the roadway. - Bicyclists should ride with traffic. - Follow all laws pertaining to bicycles and their use. - Bicyclists shall ride in single file within roadway or trail. - Bicyclists and in-line skaters shall wear standard protective gear.
